Shep's Bakery/Double Dutch

Schep's Bakeries has been making syrup waffles, a.k.a stroopwafels, since 1985. After many years of introducing these treats to Canadian and American markets, they have been called "Waffle Cookies". Stroopwafels are a Dutch treat that is a cookie baked by being pressed together using an iron (which looks like a miniature waffle), sliced through the middle, and filled with a thick syrup filling. Schep's Bakeries uses a closely guarded recipe brought over from Holland to produce stroopwafels in the same manner as those who began making them in the early 1800s. They are still importing many of their specialty ingredients directly from Holland to maintain the same traditional quality and taste.

Double Dutch Large Stroopwafels

“Stroopwafels” (Syrup Waffles) originate from Gouda,

in the Netherlands, where they were first made in 1784.

Traditionally they were consumed with coffee and tea. The syrup waffle was placed on top of a hot cup of coffee to soften the syrup.

Today, these large stroopwafels (8.5 cm) are perfect as a

snack, with ice cream, coffee, or on their own.

Barrie's Asparagus

In 1892 James King established Cedardale Farm near North Dumfries, between Kitchener and Cambridge, Ontario. Four generations later, King's great-grandson, Tim Barrie, farms Cedardale and operates Barrie's Asparagus Farm & Country Market. Tim's parents, David and Miriam Barrie, began growing asparagus on the farm in 1974 after harvesting seed from Miriam's family farm at Alliston, Ontario - at the time, her father, Homer McMann, had the largest asparagus farm in Ontario. Since 1995, Tim and his wife Libby have called Cedardale Farm "home" raising their four children there. In every aspect of farming, Tim strives to honour his parents and grandfathers - their integrity, work ethic, and love for the land have shaped his values, beliefs, and farming practices.
